Tasca Park Awarded Tree Planting Grant

I’m happy to report that we’ve recently been awarded a grant from CN EcoConnexions, “From the Ground Up” community tree-planting program. Our Parks Staff put a considerable amount of effort into this application and all of their hard work has paid off. A $25,000 matching grant will be issued to plant trees in Tasca Park, Nobleton’s new highly anticipated community park.

The funding received from the CN EcoConnexions From the Ground Up will be used towards purchasing trees, top soil, site preparation and labour. The project will enhance the Tasca Community Park development through softscaping by increasing the amount of native vegetation planted within the property.  The project will increase vegetation within the community park by restoring the area surrounding the wetlands/lagoons into a natural area through shrub and tree planting. The lagoons were originally designed to aid in the filtration of storm water runoff. During the development of the park, the wetlands have been preserved in order to provide ecological benefits coupled with community education opportunities. The lagoons also provide an aesthetically pleasing area to observe wildlife. A natural buffer will be created in between residential housing and the park.

An estimated 100 trees and 300 shrubs, as well as ground cover will be planted.

We’ll announce the planting date soon, along with a launch event to celebrate this welcomed greening project.
